About this fountain

The Smart Solar Kensington Gardens 2-Tier Solar Bird Bath Fountain features two tiers of water - plenty of it to provide birds a fresh place to bathe and drink. Crafted of sturdy resin, this fountain is weather-resistant and maintenance-free. No cracking, no rotting from the elements. And thanks to its built-in solar panels, this fountain requires no batteries or electricity to pump water through its tiers. It's finished in an antique weathered white, which will provide a lovely contrast to your green garden area. An excellent choice to go green and enjoy water and your feathered friends.

The included solar panel with the On Demand option boasts a self-contained battery and easy-to-use on/off switch. When the switch is in the on position, the pump will run as usual, but will utilize the battery when clouds pass over. Excess power will be stored in the battery, too, to keep the fountain operating when the sun sets. When the switch is in the off position, the fountain will store all solar power gathered during the day in the battery for uninterrupted use after the sun goes down. In direct sunlight, the battery can fully charge in one day, and a full battery will function for up to six hours at night.
Special Note: The regular solar version bird baths and fountains require plenty of direct sunlight to operate properly. Please be sure to have a sunny spot to place your bath or fountain. Also, the pump must never be operated dry (out of water). Dry operation permanently damages the pump.

If after time the pump starts to lose power or stops working you should check for the build up of sentiment or scale in the bottom of the pump housing. Carefully remove the solar pump unit and turn it upside down on a soft surface. Dry the solar pump connector and disconnect.
The solar panel should be cleaned periodically with a soft tissue and proprietary glass cleaning solution. Regular cleaning of the panel is advised to maintain optimum conversion of the sun's energy in the direct current.

I never saw birds before and now they have daily pool parties out there. (3) It was incredibly easy to put together. (4) I enjoy it so much that I bought a second one for my daughter and had it shipped directly to her.On the negative side: (1) It's so sensitive to the sun that it doesnt work unless the sun is shining directly on the solar panel. That means it doesnt work in the early morning or late afternoon. It stops working if a cloud passes in front of the sun or if someone walks up to look at it and casts a shadow on it. (2) It needs to be filled daily. I dont know if it leaks (I havent seen water on the patio pavers) or if the water evaporates daily. The birdbath is still so new that I dont mind filling it daily but I imagine I'll grow tired of doing that eventually[...]

Bought this fountain Spring/2009 and it arrived and worked as advertised. It DOES need direct sunlight for the highest fountain tower of water. Clouds more often mean no water flow rather than some flow.
Caveats: I brought the solar tower portion of the fountain inside over the winter here in Idaho but left the bowl outside. The bowl fractured from the temperature changes so that this spring/2010 it leaked. I bought a replacement bowl from the manufacturer (who was cordial and accommodating). but the antique-white replacement bowl was colored yellow-white and shiny....definitely not the same antique white color nor quality of the original.

Works well, birds like it, although bottom bowl is a bit deep for little sparrows so I put a little less water in bottom instead of filling it to the brim. Makes a gentle water falling sound which I can hear when I sit outside. Very soothing.

We love the bird bath. The cadinals went crazy over it and it was so much fun to watch. It works well, easy to clean as it is fairly light and we enjoy it. You just have to be aware to either store the energy during part of the day to enjoy it when the sun begins to set. It seems to be sturdy but won't know until something unexpected happens.

This fountain looks beautiful in our backyard. The sound of water falling from the top tier is relaxing. Its still too early to know if its onboard for the long haul but first impressions are good. The pump seems to be a little under-powered but other than that we really like it.

Q1: Does the kensington gardens 2-tier solar bird bath have a separate solar panel? or just one "in" the bird bath? I am confused about this.
A: The solar panel is built in to the top of the solar birdbaths in the basin area.

A: We do have them. They are called "On Demand" solar fountains. This fountain is now available as an "On Demand" fountain.
Q4: Does this fountain come in any other color? I really need a green or bronze, not a light color. But I love the look of this fountain and that it is solar powered. Thanks!
