My first bird bath heater was a Nelson. It was fairly satisfactory, but it would get moved out of my shallow water. If the temperature was cold enough, it would only heat the center of the pool.
I waited to write this until we had some really cold weather (10F along with plenty of sleet and ice). Well that's cold for Oklahoma. The Extreme Temps has kept the entire pool thawed and the birds love it.
