Description

The Farm Innovators Economical 44 Watt Bird Bath Heater /  De-Icer is a uniquely designed heater enclosed in aluminum thermal foil. Using only 44 watts of electricity, this de-icer should be used in shallow bird baths to warm the water for your feathered friends. Tested in -10 degrees Fahrenheit it is fully grounded with a three prong power cord.

Bought this several weeks ago and it's been keeping my bird bath (about 16" across) ice free with weather in the teens. Big test came today, as temps dropped down to 1 degree F overnight. There was quite a bit of ice this morning, although the center was still open. I had placed a rock on it as several people recommended, to keep it submerged. So after removing the ice, I put it back in with no rock and it works better this way. It's been 7 hours now and there's a bit of rim of ice around the outer edges of the bath, but that's all. Current temp is 6 degrees.

Yes, it appears flimsy and I'm not sure what would happen if one of the critters gave it a nibble. Will see what it looks like in a few months. As for the appearance, I don't think it's either better or worse looking than my last heater. The cord is the same short length that I've had on other models.

If you've got a large birdbath you'd probably need a heather with higher wattage. As for me, I'm sold on this one!

Its an easy product to use but it quit working in less than a month for one sole reason. The design of the plug for this use will make the product inoperable. Any small splash, or drops of rain, or condensation will travel down the plug directly into the outlet. It should come with a guard. I will hopefully be sent a replacement..where I will thoroughly wrap it with electrical tape.

      I put a rock on the heater. The rock stays warm and the birds love to sit on it to drink. The snow can be piled high around the birdbath, but the birds come to the water and bathe, and drink and enjoy the warmth.

                We wanted water for the birds. Easy installation and close to our house on the patio. Put it on table in summer bird bath bowl. Our temp at installation was 14 deg.f. Froze for a while. After the night there was water and no ice. Needed to weigh down the heater. Placed 3 small stones on extreme edges in a triangular fashion so that they would not be on elements. We are enjoying watching the different winter birds now. Glad we made purchase from Hayneedle.
