      I HAVE USED THIS EXACT HEATER FOR 8 WINTERS. It shuts off at temperatures above 35 degrees F. It is now 11 below zero at my house and this is keeping every speck of ice out of my home made bird bath. I use a plastic masons tub that holds 8 gallons of water with some rocks and short tree branches to land on. I ran a 2" piece of PVC pipe up to a window as this is on a front stoop on my home. I keep the water up to the top by filling with house water using milk jugs dumped into that pipe when I open that window. The heater does evaporate a small amount of water on some days but it works like a champ. I would love to add a photo here for you all if I can figure out how to do same?

          I've been using this product in a plastic birdbath, had a similar type before. When I first received and installed it a mysterious bubbly clear "foam" surrounded it. I took it out and scrubbed off the coating on the metal and now it works fine.

            We had purchased one of these for us when we relocated to a treed area with all sorts of beautiful Ohio birds. It keeps the water thawed - mildly warm and the birds love it. Today we have 28 inches of snow on our deck and more is expected but we know the birds will have fresh water (with their plentiful bird seed).
            This purchase we gave to our son who lives in Columbus
